The General and Specialist Family Based Foster Care and Respite Service is designed to ensure children and young people are treated well, cared for properly and afforded the same opportunities as children who are not in care. The service aims to do this by providing a supportive, robust and flexible group of Foster Carers through the service region. This involves recruitment, training, assessment, placement, carer support and case planning services to Foster Carers. This service aims to best match children and young people with appropriate foster carer support for immediate, short-term, long-term and respite care.

As a Recruitment, Assessment and Training Worker, you will be responsible, through a series of home visits, for assessing the suitability, strength and capacity of people interested in becoming Foster Carers. This will require you to have the ability to build rapport and develop strong interpersonal relationships with all members of the potential carer household.

You will:

  • Be available to provide recruitment, assessment and training of potential foster carers on evenings and weekends if required.
  • Have a high level of interpersonal and communications skills, including a high level of writing skills.
  • Be able to have conversations of potentially sensitive issues to build a full picture of the applicants.

It is essential for you to have:

  • Current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Certificate IV (or above) in a Human Services related field (preferably Youth Work or Child Youth & Family Intervention) or willingness and commitment to attain qualifications within two (2) years of commencement of employment.

It is desirable for you to have:

  • Certificate 1V or above in Training and Assessment.

A tertiary qualification in a Human Services related field e.g. Social Work will be highly regarded.

Accreditation in the Step by Step Assessment Tool will be highly regarded.

You may also need to be available for some out of hours work and travel between UCSA sites or interstate as required.

The Benefits:

  • Competitive remuneration.
  • Tax-free salary packaging benefits (up to $15900 per annum), 9.5% superannuation, 17.5% leave loading and access to a fleet vehicle.
  • Comprehensive induction and training.
  • Flexible, family friendly environment.
