Are you passionate about supporting children and young people who have experienced difficult life events? Are you hard working, enthusiastic, self-confident and emotionally resilient?  Can you think and act calmly and manage challenging situations and behaviours?


The Supported Residential Care Service provides accommodation and support for children and/or young people who are under the Guardianship of the Minister and cannot live at home with their families, or with foster or kinship carers.  Working within a therapeutic framework we address the previous trauma, abuse and/or neglect that young people in our care may have experienced.  Our service promotes positive attitudes and lifestyle choices with the aim of improving confidence, self-esteem, social and living skills.


If you would like to make a real difference in the lives of young people by providing live-in care we want to hear from you.


We have casual youth worker roles available, working a combination of shifts including mornings, afternoons, overnights and weekends over a 4 week roster.


You will be:

  • Providing role modelling, support, home management and supervision to young people in a home-like environment
  • Supporting and implementing case plans, including administrative tasks
  • Planning, organising and supervising recreational activities
  • Managing the dynamics of young people – group and individual

 You will receive:

  • A high level of support provided by a team of professionals
  • Regular specialised training, supervision and debriefing
  • An opportunity to work within a highly therapeutic framework

 You will have or, be willing to work towards: 

  • Current Australian Drivers Licence (Essential)
  • Certificate 4 (or above) in Child, Youth & Family Intervention/Youth Work
  • DCSI Child Related Employment Screening
  • Child Safe Environment Certificate
  • Provide First Aid Certificate
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certificate
  • Understanding the impact of abuse and trauma, including brain development, attachment disorder and trauma related behaviours

A tertiary qualification in a Human Services related field e.g. Social Work will be highly regarded. 

You may also need to be available for some out of hours work and travel between UCWCSA sites or interstate as required.
